Master’s Responsibilities and Authority

The Master is responsible for:

  • The safe operation of the vessel and its equipment.
  • Representing the Company when coming into contact with officials from such bodies as Port Authorities, Custom, Immigration, Port State Control, Class and Insurers.
  • Controlling all communications concerning the operation of the vessel.
  • Ensuring the company’s policy and instructions are made known to each person on board, and that relevant sections in the manuals of the QSMS and documents are read and understood by the persons concerned.
  • Convening meetings of his senior officers at monthly intervals for the purpose of discussing maintenance and safety issues.
