Master’s Responsibilities and Authority
  • The Master’s authority is defined in Maritime Law as retaining absolute responsibility for the overall safety and safe operation of the vessel under his command.
  • The administration onboard shall at all times be in accordance with Maritime Law and Practice. The Master shall be the ultimate disciplinary authority onboard.
  • A Master who is appointed to Command a Vessel, is the representative of Reefership Marine Services LLC and as such is the only person on board having the authority to act on behalf of the Company. He has the confidence and support of RMS.
  • The Master shall ensure all rules and regulations are complied with by everyone on board in the execution of their duties and otherwise, and that the vessel is being operated efficiently and cost effectively in line with company instructions.
  • His authority shall be recognized by all persons on board, including charterer’s representatives, supernumeraries and riding gangs.
